You probably have not heard of Boon Hui Lu or 文慧如.

But you will after watching her super low budget MTV.

Creative direction: 10/10

She essentially walks from one end of Marina Bay Sands to the other while covering the song "漂向北方 Stranger In The North" by Malaysian singer Namewee. The song is about Namewee's personal journey leaving Malaysia to grow his singing career in Taiwan.

Back to Boon, her vocals are great and probably the reason why the MTV has over 17 million views on YouTube. The original song features Wang Leehom on vocals while Namewee does the rap portion, as for Boon, she does it all herself.

Check the MTV out:

And if you're curious about the original song, here it is:

Boon's YouTube page is mostly videos of her doing covers of popular songs, including some English ones. She has a commendable 260,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Here's her getting 8 million views standing in a random car park singing:

Here's her covering Taylor Swift:

Her earlier cover of a Mayday song also got her noticed by Taiwanese media:

If some of you are wondering why Boon looks vaguely familiar, that's because she acted in several Mediacorp Channel 8 productions, including 2015's Crescendo 起飞, and also had a minor role in Jack Neo's movie Homerun.

Besides acting and singing, the multi-talented Boon is also a composer and has composed two songs for Hebe Tian.

Let's hope she is the beginning of a new generation of Singaporean Chinese pop stars after Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin and Tanya Chua.
