A mobile phone shop at Greenridge Shopping Center at Jelapang Road that was broken into on May 19 was broken into again two days later on May 21.

Six phones -- three Huawei phones and three Samsung phones -- were stolen from the Mobile 8 shop at around 3.30am. The phones were worth about S$5,000.

Just two days before, 10 phones costing about S$12,000 were stolen.

In the first case, the shop front’s glass display was smashed and the phones on displayed were stolen. It was replaced at a cost of S$800.

For the second break-in, the culprit cut a neat circle in the newly replaced glass using what is believed to be a glass cutter.

However, the culprit was spotted by a security guard in the act of stealing the phones. One Samsung S8 was left in the glass display and another Samsung S8 was dropped while running away.

The culprit, who was wearing a mask, hooded jacket and jeans, managed to get away.

Mikey Tan, the 30-year-old area manager for the company's Bukit Panjang outlets, said closed-circuit television cameras were to be installed after the first incident but the second theft occurred before this could be done.
