Downtown Line 3 opening on Oct. 21, 2017, 16 new stations added

Singapore's newest MRT line Downtown Line 3 will be opening on Oct. 21, 2017.

The line currently ends at Chinatown station but will continue with 16 new stations. 

The new stations are: Fort Canning, Bencoolen, Jalan Besar, Bendemeer, Geylang Bahru, Mattar, MacPherson, Ubi, Kaki Bukit, Bedok North, Bedok Reservoir, Tampines West, Tampines, Tampines East, Upper Changi, and Expo.

It is the longest stretch of DTL to be opened with three interchange stations: MacPherson, Tampines and Expo.

The 42km route will be the longest underground and driverless MRT line in Singapore.

Here's a peek at the stations before they open:

Fort Canning station, which the engineers had to divert the Singapore River to build.

 

Geylang Bahru Station is situated near Kallang Basin Swimming Complex, and will benefit HDB residents and industrial workers in the area.

Upper Changi Station will facilitate Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) students with an underground link between the station and the school.
