4 S'porean things that GovTech can convert into apps apart from parking coupons

Because why not?

News dropped last week that an app for parking fees could be on the horizon, signalling a digital makeover for what is arguably a Singapore icon - the humble parking coupon.

The app was jointly developed by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech).

It's currently being tested at more than 80 carparks in the city. No word yet on what it'll be called yet, though.

But hey, in the interest of building a Smart(er) Nation, we imagine four other Singaporean activities that GovTech can make digital:

Choping tables

Picture this: You battle though the lunchtime legion at Lau Pa Sat to score an empty table but realise that you don't have a tissue pack on hand to "chope" your seat.

All that will be a thing of the past with Chopify™. Just find the hawker centre you wish to visit, select the seat(s) you want and watch as Chopify™ reserves your place with a digital tissue pack. Fast, easy, and no pushing required.

Queuing

It's often said that queuing is our national pastime.

New clothing line? Better queue.

New iPhone? Lagi must queue.

Train disruption and you're stuck with half the population jostling at the bus stop? No choice, must queue.

With so many queues, what we need is Queuer™ - the one-stop app to help us consolidate all the queues we need to queue in so we'll never miss another queue. This will free you up for other activities - such as finding new things to queue for. No more queue FOMO!

Complaining

Singaporeans, being an unhappy lot, tend to spend a lot of time complaining. If only there is an online platform for us disgruntled folks to air our annoyance and shove our unsolicited opinions down the throats of oth - oh wait.

Comparing

"How come Amber got A+, you only got A?"

"How come Ah Seng's BTO bigger than ours?"

"How come today's McFlurry smaller than last time's?"

Would be nice to have an app that dissects two subjects for accurate comparison because when comparing, we want to avoid an 'apples and oranges' situation. Better still if the app can provide individual breakdowns for better comparison so that we can know for certain why Amber scored an A+ and you only managed a feeble A.

We'd call it WeCompare™.
