Stealing from shops too mainstream, couple steals soil along S'pore road instead

Not sure what they were trying to do.

In a video sent to us by a reader, a couple was filmed shovelling what appears to be soil or fertiliser from a roadside tree into a gunnysack, ostensibly for their own use.

The incident took place in broad daylight, no less:

Although the reader claims that the episode occurred along Yishun Ave 8, Google street views have failed to confirm their location in the video.

But whether this was some form of guerrilla marketing or they really had to feed their family of plants, tampering with public property seems to be a pretty unwise move.

Taking soil/fertiliser from the road side for your own use is considered theft and you are liable for a jail term of up to three years.

Under the Parks and Trees Act, any clearing, breaking up, or digging of land located within nature reserves or national parks is also illegal and you are liable to a fine not exceeding $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.

We have contacted NParks for verification and will update the article with their response.
