Moonlight, the 2016 Oscar Best Picture winner, has been passed uncut in Singapore.

The film, featuring a predominantly black cast and homosexuality, received a M18 rating from the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

There was uncertainty initially if the movie would make it pass censors or even be screened in Singapore, despite its Oscar win.

However, earlier in April, indie cinema The Projector hinted that it will be showing the film.

Now, it is confirmed it has a limited run from April 27 and tickets are on sale:

The movie will also be out in Shaw cinemas on the same day.

For the April 29 screening, Moonlight's director Barry Jenkins will be doing an exclusive live streamed Q&A session in the The Projector cinema.

According to the IMDA’s, Moonlight was “Passed Clean” with an M18 rating and an advisory of “Some Homosexual Content”.

IMDA justification for the M18 (spoilers ahead) here:

“The film contains a scene where the protagonist is seen sharing a passionate kiss with his male friend, before the latter is implied to perform a sexual act on him. The act is depicted discreetly through a series of cut-away shots to suggest that the protagonist is deriving sexual gratification, and is therefore contained within the M18 Classification Guidelines.”
