Chicken rice boss calls taxi driver to apologise, will offer free chicken rice to taxi drivers on May 2

Each branch of his chicken rice stall will have 100 packets of chicken rice for taxi drivers.

Gary Lim, boss of Yeo Keng Nam Traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice and the man caught on video goading a taxi driver saying the driver did not accomplish great things, has called the taxi driver in question to apologise to him.

Lim requested Shin Min Daily News to help arrange a meeting with the taxi driver

The pair were originally supposed to meet up for Lim to apologise, but the driver (surname Sun) could not make the meeting. Lim reached out to Sun through Shin Min Daily News (SMDN). While they could not meet, Lim gave a call to Sun with a SMDN reporter by his side.

SMDN reported that the phone call lasted two minutes where Lim apologised and explained that he was drunk and did not mean what he said and had no intention to hurt Sun's feelings.

Sun replied that he has let the incident go and advised Lim that regardless of what setbacks he's had, he should not take his frustrations out on others.

Sun added that not looking down on one's occupation was basic respect for others. Sun accepted the apology and hoped that Lim can move on from this incident.

Lesson learnt for Lim

Lim told SMDN that he was extremely drunk and could not believe that he was indeed the person that appeared on the video. He said this was the first time he had taken so much alcohol and the first time he was this drunk.

Lim said that this incident was a lesson for himself and others to not let emotions or alcohol intake get the better of oneself.

A gesture of contrition to taxi drivers

Through SMDN, Lim took the opportunity to apologise to taxi drivers at large for his hurtful words.

Lim wanted to use action to express his contrition and thus said he would be giving free chicken rice to taxi drivers on Tuesday (May 5) between 3 - 5pm.

He said he would be preparing 200 packets of chicken rice, split evenly between his two branches. He said that due to space constraints, the chicken rice would be for takeaway only and while stocks last. He added that he hoped taxi drivers would not mind.

Facebook page inundated with comments and one-star reviews

When Lim's identity was revealed last week, it was not long before his chicken rice restaurant's Facebook page was inundated with comments berating Lim for his behaviour.

Facebook users also gave a deluge of one-star reviews to the page:

This was taken on Friday Apr. 28. The number of one-star reviews exceeded 300 on Apr. 30
