Asia Dive Expo or simply ADEX in short is back for 2017, from Apr 7- 9 at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre.

As the name suggests, it's the largest and longest running dive expo (its 22nd year) in Asia.

In other words, it's HUGE.

Like the yearly IT, food and travel fairs, ADEX 2017 is THE must-go event for dive enthusiasts.

Even if you are a diver, you might be interested to drop by to hear YOLO adventures or see chio underwater photographs. Precisely because you don't get to see it for yourself!

So heads up everyone, here are 5 things you need to know about ADEX 2017.

1. There are over 200 exhibitions to check out.

There are more than 200 exhibitors which include vendors selling dive packages and equipment, and NGOs promoting marine conservation and climate change.

Check out the list here and the floorplan here so that you won't lose your way in the expo.

2. You get to meet mermaids and merman

Like the Merlion, mermaids and mermen are no longer mythical creatures in Singapore -- they are real and you can be one too!

There are a total of 9 mermaids and 1 merman from all over the world gathering at Suntec over the weekend.

On the right is Merman Arion who is born deaf but found a deep connection with the ocean from schooling and swimming with the help of hearing aids since he was 5. He was inspired by "The Little Mermaid" to become the merman he is today.

On the left of this photo is our very own Singapore’s First Mermaid who founded the Singapore Mermaid School too.

Together with other mermaids, they will be performing in the tanks like this:

3. Speakers sharing experiences on underwater photography and dive trips

There are more than 30 photography and videography speakers at the event.

Some will teach you useful technical tips on taking good photos underwater without a professional camera while others will share underwater photos from places as far as Antartica.

Here are some photographers that will be speaking on either Sat or Sun:

'>4. Diving pioneer and marine conservationist Sylvia Earle will be there too

Close to 20 conservation speakers will be speaking over the weekend, covering various marine life from turtle, dolphin, coral reefs etc in light of climate change.

One of the highlights is the talk by Sylvia Earle, a former Chief Scientist of NOAA.

She has led more than 100 expeditions and logged more than 7,000 hours underwater including leading the first team of women aquanauts during the Tektite Project in 1970.

She even has a Netflix documentary about her personal journey:

Earle will be sharing about her new project: HOPE1000 and her past endeavours on Saturday 5.20pm – 6.30pm. Be sure you'll be inspired!

Perhaps this 80 year-old female diver is also the best person to convince you to cast away your fear to dive.

5. Most have to pay, but some can get into ADEX 2017 for free.

Unfortunately, there is an admission fee to ADEX as you can see:
