Every now and then, the Internet throws up something so weird, so wonderful, and so cute, it brings an instant smile to your face.
Like this anime mash-up below by Singaporean artist oodon. Try to see if you can identify all the references!
Or hisĀ No-Face/Gudetama creation which is absolutely golden.
But wait a minute, who's oodon?
"My real name is Don, hence the tag oodon (āudonā) - ironically I hate udon.Ā I hold a boring full time job as an internal auditor and run oodon only after office hours."
According to the man himself, doodling is a way for him to unwind from his daily grind and a way to experiment with different ideas that he dreams up at workĀ - which he then shares with the Internet.
#SushiSquad
oodon is perhaps most well known for hisĀ #SushiSquad. What's that you ask?Ā Nothing much, just your favourite animated characters on sushi rice:
As much as we crave theĀ EeveelutionĀ maki, we also wanted to find out how his #SushiSquad came about:
"I was intrigued by the different variations of sushi that you can possibly find in a sushi joint. So I thought it will be cool to switch the fresh seafood you normally find on top of your sushi with popular characters. I also started to sell these sushi stickers in sets of three - the idea was to have people pick out their favourite sushi from the wide selection of sushi on the menu."
Our top 5 favourite oodon doodles
oodon has so many cute doodles on his Instagram page, but we narrowed them down to our favourite five, and asked him to share with us his thoughts on them:
1.Ā Cats with your coffee? Yes please.Ā
"This was totally done for fun, I wanted to see how many coffee cups I have to doodle on before Toastbox would notice me on instagram. Kudos to them, it only took 2 coffee cups. If Toastbox keeps brewing, Iāll keep drawing."
Well Toastbox did notice andĀ sent over a gift card as a "Thank you".Ā So, if you want free coffee, you know what to do.
2. This Snorlax x Sailormoon mash up that can only happen in our dreams
https://www.instagram.com/p/BP6J-C8hf34/
"If you havenāt noticed, I do a lot of character mash-ups. Snorlax is one of my most drawn character because itās so chubby and I threw in Sailormoon for fun. The world needs to see a Snorlax using the Power of the Moon."
If a Snorlarmoon is also your thing, you'll be glad to know it's currently available as a sticker atĀ his Sushi Shop.
3. Ever wanted to nua so bad like Gudetama? Ditto.
"Oh this one was just a lazy doodle idea. Had a long day at work and wanted to do a quick doodle. Gudetama and Ditto are one of the easiest characters to draw because it is made up of simple lines and shapes."
We also love how their lines gel (hurhur) together so seamlessly, like a match made in heaven.
4. Don't grab. Just #MarvelAtThePussy.
"This was one of the early projects I did - to reimagine Marvel Characters in the feline form. The internet was all about cats back then so I thought why not? I kinda stopped this series for a while now, but maybe I will revive this project once Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks in."
Click on his #MarvelAtThePussy hashtag on Instagram and you'll find otherĀ cats dressed in the likes of Antman, Deadpool, Ironman, and even Vision.
5. We'd like to space out with a Shiba Inu too
"I got that USB astronaut thingy as a Christmas gift and was testing it out. I thought this astronaut dude might be lonely in space so I drew him a loyal friend for company."
Awwww.Ā Spacing out at work/class just got even dreamier with this little fat puff of goodness.Ā Also, that littleĀ onigiriĀ on its head is killing us.
Free stuff must share; talent must support
Of course good things get even better when there's free stuff involved.
oodon is known to host giveaways ofĀ samples of his new stickers whenever they debut at his online store (very aptly named the oodon Sushi Shop).
Also, he has previously uploaded free wallpapers for your phones like this one:
If you don't want to miss out on free stuff, don't forget to follow him on Instagram.
More importantly, his stickers and other products can be found online or at various pop-upĀ flea markets.Ā His stickers on the oodon Sushi Shop cost between $1.50 and $2 - a steal, considering how much joy they bring.
So please go and support his work so thatĀ oodon to continue to gift us with more cute mash-ups and exotic sushi!
