Wow. Just wow.

In a scene similar to those played out in Hong Kong action movies, a handsome young Hong Kong constable talks a Pakistani man out of attempting suicide from a 20-metre high crane.

Unlike in Hong Kong movies, however, the conversation was fluently carried out not in Cantonese, but in the Pakistani language, Urdu.

The policeman, with his chiselled good looks and boyish smile, is no typical Hong Konger.

Meet 20-year-old Ifzal Zaffar, a Hong Kong policeman, who is now Hong Kong's latest online celebrity.

Ifzal, who is of Pakistani descent, told Apple Daily: "I used the techniques we learned at the academy … I think he felt safer knowing that I could talk to him in his own language."

He had joined the force just under a year ago, and is the only officer of Pakistani origin in the district.

In a video on the Hong Kong Police's Facebook page on Mar. 13, Ifzal talked about his experiences as a policeman and how he enjoyed his work, all in flawless Cantonese.

In the latest Facebook video uploaded on Mar.19, Ifzal revealed more about his background, such as how he grew up studying in a local school and learning Cantonese from young.

He also spoke about his participation in a community initiative that helped non-Chinese improve their Chinese, which eventually led him to join the Hong Kong Police.

Watch the video of Ifzal speak about all these in impeccable Cantonese and his message to those learning Chinese.
