Jo Schooling's not perfect: he only won 2 relays & finished 3rd in 50-yard freestyle at college championships

He's "a little disappointed" with one result, but he won two races.

Expectations are raised every time swim star Joseph Schooling's feet touches the water.

Even for the Olympic Gold medalist for 100m butterfly himself.

While Schooling did his college -- the University of Texas at Austin -- proud with two relay wins, he is not entirely satisfied as he came in third at the men's 50 Yard Freestyle.

This was what Schooling said,

"Of course, I was a little disappointed with the results in the 50 Free but it's ok, I still have two days of competition and as a team we know that the events over the next two days are our events, so we just need to keep continue the momentum."

Schooling's team came in first in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and the Men's 400 Yard Medley Relay.

On his team's relay performance, Schooling said,

"For me, I am definitely happy with both my performance in the 200 Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay. I did a 43.6 in my fly split for the 400 Medley Relay, better than the NCAA time of 44.01 I did last year. And I think I did well to help the team win the 200 Free Relay. And that is all that matters, to put points on the board for Texas."

As Schooling has indicated, points are awarded for the swims and relays for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Men’s meet, with the championship awarded to the university which collects the most points.

Schooling's university, the University of Texas, is the defending champion for the meet.

Schooling will be competing to swim in the 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard butterfly and two more relays this weekend. He is the defending champion in both of the individual races.

Below is the breakdown of the Schooling's results:

1. Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay

University of Texas - 1st

1:14.59

Schooling swam in the last leg of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Texas was second before the change and he achored home with a split time of 18.34s.

2. Men's 50 Yard Freestyle

Joseph Schooling - 3rd

18.79s

Schooling finished 3rd, behind Florida's Caeleb Dressel (18.23s) and NC State's Ryan Held (18.60s).

3. Men's 400 Yard Medley Relay

University of Texas - 1st

2:59.22

The team broke the previous NCAA record of 3:00.68 that was set last year by University of Texas. Schooling swam in the 3rd leg (Butterfly) with a split time of 43.6s. His split time of 43.6s is also faster than the time of 44.01s he clocked in last year's NCAA Championships.
