Indie Portuguese band releases song titled "Singapura", paints the most pessimistic picture of S'pore

Lisbon-based band Moda Americana is an up-and-coming alternative group from Portugal with a modern and expansive psychedelic sound.

And in an act of seeming randomness, they have also named their most recent album, as well as their lead single, "Singapura".

And just in case you think that title is due to a slight quirk in language, in which Singapura means something completely different in Portuguese...

Which seems to be a grim, nightmarish version of this particular geographical landmass:

And that goes perfectly with how the band themselves see their music.

"The interplay between surreal characters inspired by intimate contact with nature and the geographical imagery...".

The music video itself is a psychedelic trip punctuated by this very telling final verse — the song's lyrics are in Portuguese, but this is its translation:

There in Singapore I was nobody To compare with the evildoer.

Everyone in Singapore wants to be someone But there is no hope.
