Man accused of causing AYE accident found to be of sound mind & fit to plea

Bail set at S$50,000.

Based on an Institute of Mental Health (IMH) report, the 53-year-old businessman accused of causing a fatal accident when he drove against the flow of traffic on the Aye Rajah Expressway (AYE) has been found to be of sound mind and fit to plea.

The man, Lim Chai Heng, appeared in court via videolink from Changi Medical Centre and was offered bail of S$50,000 on Thursday, Feb. 9.

He is facing a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder over the Dec. 19, 2016, accident, that killed 37-year-old actor Liong Kuo Hua.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Teo Lu Jia had originally asked for a S$100,000 bail amount.

The bail review for the case will be held on Feb. 13. Lim will return to court three days after.

He could be jailed up to 10 years and fined.
