Two swims, two records broken. Not a fluke.

Singaporean Olympic Gold medallist Joseph Schooling's 2017 New Year's resolution was clear-cut enough.

"My mission, my goal is to prove that it’s not a fluke, (that) I am the best and I am going to keep being the best", he told TODAY newspaper.

It is only two months into 2017 and Schooling, in record-breaking fashion, has fulfilled his New Year resolution.

In two days, Schooling, 21, has already broken two records: 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly -- at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Big 12 is a 10-school multi-sport competition.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, he broke an eight-year-old 50-yard freestyle record with his 18.76s performance

On Friday, he smashed the 100-yard butterfly swim meet record of 44.62s that was set by him last year.

It is the third 100-yard fastest swim of all-time.

Fastest 100 yard butterfly swims all-time:

1. Tom Shields, 43.84, USA Swimming Winter Nationals, 12/16

2. Jo Schooling, 44.01, NCAA Championships, 3/16

3. Jo Schooling, 44.06, Big 12 Conference Championships, 2/17

Schooling's next individual event at the meet is the 200-yard butterfly.

What is the significance of all these good swims?

It means that Schooling is remarkably consistent.

His 100-yard butterfly win demonstrates that he is not resting on his laurels after his Olympic gold medal win.

It also means that Schooling has an outside Olympic medal chance at 50m freestyle.

His time of 18.76s, when translated by swimming website Swimswam from 50 yards to 50m, would have placed Schooling seventh in the world last year.

Guess Schooling has three more years to ensure that he is not the only one who has to worry about defending his Olympic Gold medal.
