Upper Thomson Road flooded again due to heavy rain

When it rains, it floods.

Heavy rain caused a flash flood along Upper Thomson Road on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 19.

Again.

Moderate to heavy thundery showers with gusty winds were expected between 3.30pm and 4.30pm, the National Environment Agency warned.

Upper Thomson Road was previously flooded on Christmas eve last year, resulting in businesses in the area to suffer S$30,000 in collective losses, with one prata shop sustaining S$15,000 in losses.

National water agency PUB launched an investigation, which found that construction firm Sato Kogyo had carried out unauthorised works that affected the public drainage system there.

The firm is carry out the construction of the Upper Thomson MRT station.

Sato Kogyo is facing action under the Sewerage and Drainage Act.

Various other locations were also congested due to the inclement weather, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

These include the road in the direction towards the Seletar Expressway after Jalan Pelatina and the road towards Newton after Bright Hill Drive.
