London-based research institute, Legatum Institute, released in November 2016 its 10th annual global Prosperity Index.

It is a survey that ranked 149 countries in the world by comparing their prosperity level, taking into account various factors, such as governance, education and safety and security for measurement.

Singapore, as usual, came out tops in some of these areas, namely Safety and Health, ranking first and second respectively.

The Safety and Security sub-index ranks countries based on national security and personal safety.

The Health sub-index measures a country's performance in basic physical and mental health, health infrastructure and preventative care.

However, Singapore ranked relatively poorly in terms of Personal Freedom, coming in at 97th place.

The Personal Freedom sub-index measures national progress towards basic legal rights, individual freedoms and social tolerance.

Overall, Singapore was ranked 19th most prosperous country.
