14 things Singaporeans inevitably say when they go on holiday

If you didn't say any of this, you are not a real Singaporean.

Holidays are the major annual highlight for many Singaporeans who slog hard the rest of the year.

And now it's that time of the year again.

It's one way to escape the realities of our dreary existence. Moreover, Singapore is just too hot to enjoy a lot of walking around.

Going to a different country is always an interesting experience and here are some things that Singaporeans will inevitably say when they travel abroad:

1.

water

This is definitely one of the first few questions Singaporeans will ask the moment they check into their hotel rooms. The next thing they will probably say is "Quick, go boil some water".

2.

cheeps

People who have been to H&M/ Mango/ Zara in Europe and Gap in the US would be surprised at how incredibly cheap all their clothes are. $5 T-shirts, $10 sweaters and $15 jeans are all possible to find there.

And of course there are the car prices. You can get a brand new BMW for just $30,000. Don't be sad ok?

it isnt fair

3.

outlet singapore

Yes, one of the biggest highlights of most holidays is a visit to outlet shops to get branded goods at discounted prices. But before you go on a crazy shopping spree thinking you can get a good deal, you might want to read this report first.

4.

rubbish bin

We are too spoilt for choices when it comes to rubbish bins in Singapore. Time to stuff those sweet wrappers in your pockets when you're overseas.

5.

rice

You can take the Singaporean out of Singapore but you can't take the Singapore out of the Singaporean. Hands up those who wake up in the middle of the night in their hotel room craving for nasi lemak or chicken rice.

6.

peekture

Granted that everyone on holiday would take photographs, but only Singaporeans will say "take picture" or "take photo". Singlish for the win.

7.

snow

Yes, Singaporeans are swakoo like that. No, Snow City does not count.

8.

sauce

Remember the big hoo-ha here when McDonald's started to charge customers for extra packets of BBQ/ Curry sauce? It's actually the norm in many European countries. Bet you didn't know you had to pay extra for tartar sauce to go with your Fish & Chips in the UK and Australia as well.

9.

water paid

That's almost $6 for a 250ml bottle of Evian. But most Singaporeans won't be angry when they realise....

beer

Nice.

10.

migrate

Comfortable weather, slower pace of life, everyone seems genuinely happier... How not to fall in love with some of the places we visit?

11.

cabs

Singaporeans are genuinely surprised that taxis in many countries are mostly Mercedes E class models. Apart from the general reliability and longevity of these cars, Mercedes actually give rebates to taxi-drivers who choose their cars. This is only in Germany of course.

12.

singdollr

This is the most commonly said thing whenever Singaporeans go overseas. Time to take out the phone to calculate.

13.

cheaper

Because even when we are overseas, we can smell a bad deal.

14.

Walking in Ximen

Nothing makes you feel more Singaporean than hearing someone else in the crowd speaking familiar Singlish. Nothing beats home.
