Supermoon will be out tonight, Nov. 14, 2016, visible in S'pore from 6.46pm to 9.52pm

It will be a spectacle. It will be huge. Huge, I tell ya.

Shall we bow our heads and close our eyes as we unite our hearts and pray for cloudless skies and a rain-less night tonight?

That's because the supermoon will be out today on Nov. 14, 2016, and will be visible in Singapore from 6.46pm to 9.52pm.

It will set in the west at 7.18am the following day.

NASA had announced that this supermoon will be the closest to Earth since 1948, making it the biggest moon Earthlings will see in 70 years.

The next time the moon appears this size will be on Nov. 25, 2034.

However, the odds of seeing the supermoon are currently 50-50, as Singapore is experiencing a rainy inter-monsoon season and the weather is running the risk of ruining everything.

Where are the best places to watch the supermoon?

If -- touch wood -- everything goes according to plan, you might want to go somewhere dark to watch the supermoon in its full glory.

Places such as Punggol Waterway Park or Marina Barrage will work well, as the former is relatively dark and the latter has a high vantage point with buildings in the foreground to give more perspective and depth to the moon overhead.

Objects in the foreground, such as buildings, tend to create an optical illusion that makes the moon look even larger:

If you are planning to stay out for a few hours, you can even watch the moon move across the sky. For photographers, this is something definitely worth shooting and lugging your tripod around for.

And if for some reason the supermoon doesn't show at all or that well, not to worry.

Another supermoon will be out on Dec. 14, 2016, although it will not be quite as large as the November one, which is the biggest so far this century.
