We will know in 2 years' time if the Cross Island Line will cut through the Central Catchment Nature Reserve

A site investigation to cut through it will start in December.

As you might already know, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) wants to build a new train line called the Cross Island Line, which will run almost parallel to the East-West Line.

Unfortunately, their plans were slightly derailed (LOL) when Singaporeans found out that the line, which will run underground is going to cut through the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR), that green sanctuary away from our concrete jungle. An alternative route would have the line skirt around the CCNR but would cost an extra $2 billion to build extra tunnels, facilities, and to acquire surrounding land.

As most of us would also know, the LTA is conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment to find out if either option (direct or skirting) is feasible. Since May this year, LTA has appointed site investigation works to be carried out for the skirting alignment option. On Tuesday (Oct 25), LTA announced that they have appointed contractors to carry out site investigation works for the cutting through direct alignment option, which will begin in December.

Once the Environmental Impact Assessment is completed in two years, we will know if the line will really cut through the nature reserve. Keeping our fingers crossed!
