Toggle recently aired an original production that featured a Chinese actor, Shane Pow, putting on blackface in an effort to portray an African character.

People weren't too happy about the use of blackface, as well as the show's insinuation that Indians and Africans were effectively the same.

Apologies

The negative backlash quickly prompted Toggle to issue this statement.

So all fine and dandy right?

Nope.

Take offense

A lot of netizens took issue with this particular part of the apology.

The scene has been perceived as being racially insensitive by some viewers, although that was never our intention in the production.

Here are some of the reactions to that particular sentiment.

The general issue many had was that Toggle's apology was how Toggle appeared to still place the onus of the outcry on those who got offended, rather than their actions being offensive.

Another one

This lead to yet another apology, this time issued to marketing magazine, Marketing.

“Our apology yesterday came out wrong. We’re sorry for the blackface portrayal and for the poor apology. We take race-related issues very seriously and that portrayal should not have happened. We’ve removed the offensive scenes from the programme and will ensure something like that doesn’t happen again.”
