Thanks to technology, we have a drone's eye view of Rochor Centre before it gets demolished

A moment in time well-captured is one that will be treasured for generations.

There are many bad things that technology has brought to the world, but one of the great things it has blessed us with is the unprecedented new ways we can record and take pictures.

Thanks to drones, especially, we now have access to new angles of places we have never been able to see before — particularly useful for pretty places that have to be mowed down to give way to other developments.

Take Rochor Centre, for instance, which was initially slated to be demolished in September to make way for the upcoming North-South Expressway. It's still here, though, and some residents haven't moved out yet, although they will all eventually have to shift to a new set of blocks in Upper Boon Keng Road.

Many Singaporeans and tourists-in-the-know, hipsters and kaypohs alike, have pounded the grounds of this kueh lapis estate to take pictures in a bid to record it in our annals, where decades down the road we can tell our grandchildren that this place existed.

Enter a group of university undergraduates, who sent a drone up and recorded this pretty cool video of the four blocks and their immediate vicinity — here are some scenes from it:

Where most of us usually walk to get a view of all four blocks together:

A similarly kueh lapis-looking building next door:

Gliding alongside the top few floors of these two blocks:

This shot's kinda scary:

But hey, all memories we're grateful to have.

And in case you're interested and looking for something fun to do on this cool Sunday, the group behind this video is running an exhibition that ends today (Oct. 30), from 4-10pm at where else but Rochor Centre. More info on that here.
