Thailand’s nightlife, especially the notorious parts, are toning down their activities for at least a month out of respect for King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Following the death of royalty or revered Buddhist monk, it is common in the kingdom for bars to remain closed and convenience stores to stop serving alcohol.

According to Bangkok Stickboy, that chronicles happenings and entertainment in Bangkok, all venues along the notorious Soi 4, including Nana Plaza, have closed.

Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-ocha said in a televised address to the nation that the country would hold a one-year mourning period and that all entertainment functions must be “toned down” for a month.

Entertainment strips in capital Bangkok have already begun shutting down on Thursday evening once it was official the king had passed away.

Tourism and businesses catering to visitors from abroad are expected to slow to a crawl.

Sales will take a hit just a few months ahead of the peak tourism season which begins in December.
