The story of our first Prime Minister has been told countless times, through autobiographies, documentaries and even comic books.

Now, you can read about the late Lee Kuan Yew's life story -- in 248 painstakingly hand-drawn, manga-style pages.

Created by author Yoshio Nabeta and manga artist Yoshihide Fujiwara, The LKY Story - Lee Kuan Yew: The Man Who Shaped a Nation is the first in a series of original biographical manga books to be launched.

The idea behind retelling Lee Kuan Yew's story in manga form is to hopefully inspire a younger audience of readers to pick up the book.

“In Japan, it is not uncommon for manga to depict actual events in history, or the biographies or life stories of famous people," said Bunsho Kajiya of publisher Shogakukan Asia.

He added that retelling Lee Kuan Yew's story in manga form "would also work on a global scale to attract many potential readers, and introduce Mr Lee to a wider audience".

The LKY Story - Lee Kuan Yew: The Man Who Shaped a Nation is the first original manga series to be published by Shogakukan Asia, and commemorates the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic ties.

The manga book is going for $16.90 and will be released on Oct. 25 in all leading bookstores islandwide.

The LKY Story will also be distributed in 10 countries -- Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

A Japanese-language edition of the book is slated for a digital launch in Japan later in November this year.
