Look at this. These are fathers & mothers of puppies sold at pet shops in S'pore.

Adopt, don't buy.

Unlike the Powerpuff Girls, which are made of eight cups of sugar, a pinch of spice, one tablespoon of everything nice and an accidental drop of Chemical X, puppies sold at pet shops in Singapore are made from breeding dogs.

Breeding dogs spend their whole lives mating and giving birth, and when they can no longer carry out that task effectively (i.e. profits slip below costs), they are left for dead.

Voices For Animals, an animal welfare group in Singapore that has the gnarly task of taking in and re-homing animals, are giving these breeding dogs a real furever home by taking them in and putting them up for adoption.

Here is a video of these ex-breeding dogs that are given a new leash of life (what a spectacular pun), albeit a bit ratty-looking from all the years of abuse their bodies have taken:

Most of these dogs are HDB-approved, so there is no reason -- unless you are a superficial person who only likes cute things and willing to pay for a puppy by disregarding where the litter came from -- not to adopt.

Remember, when the buying stops, the economy might tank -- but the breeding and killing stops too.

The VFA adoption drive would be on:
