The Meteorological Department in Thailand has predicted that a cold spell is expected to hit the country by the end of October this year, according to a news report by Thai PBS.

Based on statistics and analysis of weather forecast models, it is predicted that this will be the coolest Thailand has been in years.

The lowest temperature in Bangkok is forecast at between 14 to 15 degrees Celsius.

This is relatively warmer compared to the upper parts of the northern and northeastern regions where average temperatures could go as low as 6 to 7 degrees Celsius.

The cold spell is expected to last until February 2017.

The coldest period will be between the second half of December until middle of next January, with frost expected to take place on mountain tops.

November and December will also see heavy rainfalls in the eastern coast of the south from Chumphon province downward. Flash floods and storms are expected.

This cold freak weather is not new to Thailand or Bangkok though.

In January 2016, Bangkok experienced 16 degrees Celsius weather, which caught the locals by surprise.
