Images of a Taiwanese auntie holding on to her pork bun for dear life in the midst of Typhoon Megi which has swept through Taiwan and China this past week.
Considering the severity of a typhoon (Typhoon Megi itself has killed four people in Taiwan and triggered two landslides in China), we are surprised that this Taiwanese auntie did not loosen her death grip on her pork bun. Even when her umbrella was on the brink of being wrecked.
Taiwanese paper Apple Daily managed to find out the identity of the Taiwanese auntie - a 53 year-old fruit seller by the name of Mrs Dai. According to Apple Daily, Mrs Dai is embarrassed that such a photo is her "claim to fame". She hoped that such this publicity will be beneficial for her business - a little fruit stand called 小甜甜 in a Taipei market.
When this story broke on Facebook, the internet responded with overwhelming adoration, even calling Mrs Dai a national treasure for her. Check out their responses, which we've translated from Mandarin:
"Since the pork bun is so delicious, she should be its spokesperson. Her headline could read: 'Typhoons be damned, I've got a bun to finish.'"
"Im feeling a little bit hungry"
"This is what it means to live in the moment. Who knows what will happen in the next second? The pork bun is the only true thing."
"Of course she's eating a pork bun in a typhoon. What else is one supposed to do?"
"Without the pork bun anchoring her to the ground, Auntie is going to be blown away."
"Someone, quick! Call the photoshop brigade!"
"Wild! Even a typhoon can't stop her from eating her pork bun!"
"Someone please tell me where she got her pork bun from. I want to eat it."
"You want my umbrella? Sure. Pork bun? No!"
Thank you Mrs Dai, for showing us how you can still keep your chill even in a typhoon. Someday you need to introduce us to the store that sells that glorious pork bun.
