There has been a recent hashtag trending on Twitter called #Singapurabeauty.

As the name might suggest, the hashtag is meant to celebrate all things beautiful about Singapura.

The first such mention of the hashtag seems to be in this tweet.

That tweet also seems to serve as the foundations of this particular trend, where focus is placed on Singapore beauty that might be underrepresented.

While no one incident can lay claim to be the impetus of this trend, one recent tweet in particular seems to capture the spirit of this entire thing.

Namely, the over-representation of certain races in the conversation of what constitutes beauty.

Soon, people from a whole spectrum of races had started posting under the hashtag.

There were Malays

Indians

Eurasians

But the most liked pictures unfortunately came from a rather over-represented group on the Internet.

Beauty is all around

While the final product might have gotten somewhat astray from the original intent, the hashtag brought forth a telling statement.

The definition of beauty is rather broad, far broader than what might currently be represented in the Singaporean mainstream, and as such, that spectrum should be better represented.

Because sometimes, beauty comes in the form of a waif thin model, other times, it comes in a box.
