The Rotimatic that PM Lee mentioned costs US$999 and people have been waiting years for it

Making roti is more complicated than you thought.

A machine that makes Roti seems like an absolute home run.

Everyone likes Roti, no one likes making it.

A machine that handles the cumbersome 'making' part would be an instant goldmine right?

Well, yes and no.

NDP Rally

During the rally, PM Lee mentioned a company that was focusing on just such a thing, Zimplistic.

Zimplistic

Zimplistic's mission message is this.

"Zimplistic's mission is to tackle hard real-world problems to improve the daily lives of people.”

Enter Rotimatic.

Rotimatic, Zimplistic's flagship product, makes roti in just 1 minute.

All you do is add water, flour, press some buttons, and the machine will proceed to do this.

And tadah! Roti.

As expected of a roti-making machine, the demand is certainly there, but 2 main stumbling blocks seem to come up a lot in regards to the product.

Namely price, and availability.

Price

The price for the Rotimatic is tentatively set at US$999 (SG$1351).

That is a lot of money for a machine that specialises in making rotis.

A sentiment shared by some on their Facebook page.

Availability

And for those who can look past the price tag, they face the significant hurdle of not actually getting the product.

Singapore availability

Although Zimplistic claims it has delivered the first batch of Rotimatic to Singaporean customers, there seems to be a sizeable consumer base that have not received the product. These are comments that have been posted on Rotimatic's page right after it shared a video of NDR 2016:

For now, the only way to get a Rotimatic is to sign up for it on their website.
