The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has updated a travel notice for France on July 29, 2016.

Travel notices are routinely updated to remind Singaporeans of situations in countries with hot spots of unrest, such as Syria, Kuwait, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and on precautions one can take, such as purchasing travel insurance and knowing where the Singapore embassy is located.

The update to the travel notice comes after France extended its state of emergency until Jan 26, 2017, following the Nice terror attack on July 14.

Singaporeans are advised to remain vigilant and, where possible, avoid crowded places, public gatherings, and areas where police operations are ongoing.

Enhanced security measures are in place across the country, including increased police surveillance of popular public areas and restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles.

Singaporeans should also obtain comprehensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.

When there are disruptions, the French Interior Ministry will provide latest information in English and French on the official mobile app named SAIP (or Système d'alerte et d'information des populations in French) available via iTunes and Google Play.

Singaporeans are also encouraged to e-register themselves with the MFA at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ so they can be contacted in emergencies.
