3 reasons why the RSAF Open House is an aerophile’s fantasy

Plenty of cannons and plane heads on display.

On Tuesday, we got a sneak peek into the RSAF Open House 2016 coming up this weekend.

The following are the biggest turn-ons, specially pinpointed for all you aerophiles:

1. Plenty of big guns on display:

Seriously, check some of these out —

b) The KC-135, a refuelling craft — also the biggest of the lot

It does kinda look like it's smiling at you from this angle, eh?

c) One of the famed F16 RSAF Black Knight stunt jets (that, well, aren't actually black)

d) A Super Puma helicopter:

e) The very noisy F15, which usually flies in the five-jet arrow formation at the NDP:

The best part about seeing these big boys? Most of them will have their cockpits open to the public so you can go in and wrap your sweaty hands (trust us, it’s hot on the tarmac) round the shaft of the joystick, pull it whichever way you like and pretend you’re blowing stuff up. Can see, can touch, but no photos of the cockpit allowed. Some things still need to be kept private.

2. The dramatic demonstrations:

By the way, we must take this opportunity to slide in a health warning — you might want to use protection for your ears, because the jets are pretty noisy in their take-off.

3. Ride one of these two planes, if you're lucky:

So shiny.

b) The Hercules C-130, also used for transport

(It was too large to fit in one frame.)

You'll be able to take a ride on one of these two planes if you took part in the Aircraft Ride Ticket ballot, with the other two being the CH-47SD Chinook helicopter (the one that carries our national flag on August 9 each year) and the Singapore Youth Flying Club's DA40 light aircraft.

All we can say is, be prepared to realise how minuscule our country really is when you can see Changi on one side and Tuas on the other, within your range of vision.

This is also one of the very few opportunities that you'll get to see the Singapore cityscape from an eagle-eye’s view, so treasure the moment hor.

Unfortunately, though, you can’t take photos of yourself inside the plane — sorry to burst your insta-bubble, influencers.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force Open House is free and open to the public this Saturday and Sunday, from 9am to 6pm. Go here for more details about it.

(P.S. we also guarantee that you will be very sweaty by the end because it will be hot.)
