It has happened to these folks on holiday and it can happen to you

Better to be safe than sorry.

Holidays - perhaps the one occasion that everyone looks forward to but which could also be a great source of worry when there’s an emergency.  Think about it: You’re in a foreign country, you don’t speak the language, there’s no tour guide and ... NO WIFI/PHONE SIGNAL!

If you were more kiasi and less kiam siap when it came to buying that travel insurance, then you won’t have to lose sleep over these random thoughts...

1. What if I lose my baggage?

If it happened to a professional golfer, it could very well happen to you. While it’s unlikely that you and I have a golfing tournament with millions at stake, having our luggage go missing is a bitch. Your “chow chow” might be gone forever (although we think if anyone wants to steal your luggage, a whiff of your “chow chow” might just put them off).

But hor...

If you had insurance such as the TravelEasy Premier Plan, you can claim up to $7,500 for the items in your missing luggage - well, maybe not your "chow chow". Perhaps it’s time you move on from that relationship.

2. What if my luggage got delayed?

You’ve heard how a baggage system technical fault crippled London Heathrow. Taking days to sort through all that luggage and getting it into the hands of their rightful owners was a logistical nightmare. Imagine if you were one of them, going for days without clean clothes and underwear. Eww.

But then ...

Excuse to buy new clothes! While your travel insurance claim might not get you that new Chanel jacket - hmm… has anyone tried?!? - the amount should be more than enough to prevent you from wearing your underwear front, back and reverse for the next few days. Remember to keep those receipts!

3. What if my flight got cancelled or delayed?

The east coast of the United States seems to get hit with terrible snowfall constantly with flights into cities such as New York and Boston close to impossible. In other places, your travel plans might be disrupted due to natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions or tsunamis.

Liddat how?

Travel insurance can kick in before a trip.  Time for a major change of plans! Claim your travel cancellation up to a high of S$15,000 (we insert another plug for TravelEasy Premier Plan) and you can go jalan-jalan in another city/island and discover new experiences.

4. What if I miss my connecting flight?

To the horror of some travellers, it could take days before the next available flight and you could end up like these travellers who missed two connections and went 72 hours without luggage.

That sucks … then what?

Knowing you can claim up to S$1,000 for Premier family cover from the likes of MSIG Insurance can help keep your comfort levels up and spirits high.

Just don’t spend it on that bottle of Dom Perignon - you don’t have to keep your spirits THAT high.

5. What if I lose my passport?

Losing precious travel documents can happen to even the most experienced of travellers such as Nomadic Matt. It can be quite terrifying if you’re in a country that is particularly tough on travellers who do not have alternate forms of identification.

Scary right?

Take this as a good opportunity to change that hideous passport photo that you’ve been secretly loathing. If you’re still hating your new photo after the insurance company replaces it for free, perhaps a more drastic and permanent measures need to be taken in the facial aesthetics department. South Korea, anyone?

6. What if I die from a plane accident, car accident, (insert imagination gone wild) accident?

Source Source

Choi, choi, choi! Actually the chance of you having a plane accident is less likely than getting bitten by a shark. But then there’s always this possibility.

There’s also the more likely possibility of you getting hurt or worse doing hardcore stuff like bungee or base jumping. Remember that indemnity document you signed before an extreme sport activity? Yup, you’ve absolved the organisers from paying out any compensation.

But having the TravelEasy Premier Plan (here we go again) can cover up to S$350,000 for such scenarios of accidental death. Guess we should … ahem … jump at this.

Now what happens if the accident happens on the ground - like when you’re taking public transport?

If really suay suay it happens to you, your estate can get up to S$700,000 for accidental death coverage. So...

This is one time we should be our most kiasi self and grab that travel insurance. Fingers and toes crossed that nothing happens lor.
