Durian makes its American talk show debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

This is like when The Beatles went on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Jessica Chastain continues to make her case for honorary Singaporean, after she brought a durian onto Jimmy Kimmel Live, a long running late night talk show.

For those wondering how she got her hands on the fruit, the actress was recently in town for the premiere of The Huntsman: Winter's War.

In case some cynics out there think Jessica is doing this as some PR stunt devised by the show, here is the picture she posted on Instagram declaring her love for the oft misunderstood fruit.

Found my favorite fruit! #durian

Favourite fruit siol.

Never mind that she still pronounces durian weird, dorian, Jessica was effusive in her praise of the fruit, referring to it by its rightful title, King of The Fruits as well as calling it the "bleu cheese of fruits" for obvious olfactory reasons.

The host, Jimmy Kimmel, didn't take too well to "The King of Fruits" though.

And there have been far stronger opinions from westerners, with Anthony Bourdain commenting that it "smelled like you'd buried somebody holding a big wheel of Stilton in his arms, then dug him up a few weeks later." and food writer Richard Sterling describing the smell as "Pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock."

So infamous is the pungency, that some have even taken to using durian as a sort of fear factor style novelty when foreigners come over to Singapore.

It's ok durian, we still love you.
