Most Singaporeans know Thaksin Shinawatra as the former Prime Minister of Thailand (2001 - 2006) and the former boss of Manchester City Football club (2007-2008).

But did you know that the 66-year-old Thailand political fugitive is a frequent visitor to Singapore and a regular at Paragon's Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck?

Although Thaksin, who according to The Financial Times, "has houses in at least six countries and travels on a Montenegrin passport", he decided to choose a lunch spot in Singapore to be interviewed by FT’s Bangkok regional correspondent, Michael Peel.

Thaksin has good tastes. Paragon's Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck is well known for its -- no surprises here -- Peking Duck. According to the restaurant, "each whole duck is roasted to crisp perfection by our chefs from Beijing and sliced on the platter before your eyes".

In fact, Thaksin told Peel that he was a "regular at the restaurant" and orders for both the journalist and him.

Peel noted that Thakin's selection "includes a very expensive bowl of soup made with fish maw", "believed to offer a range of benefits for the lungs, kidneys and skin".

What did Thaksin talk about over the meal?

He spoke to Financial Times about fighting the political injustice against him and his supporters that was caused by the generals and the establishment, but insisted that he was not interested to become Prime Minister again.

Anyway, here is how the food review blogs rate the restaurant.

In case you are wondering, Thaksin did order the duck, just that it wasn't reflected in the receipt.
