No one does "patting yourself in the back" better than Mediacorp.
Dream Makers 2 – a Mediacorp Channel 8 drama about the behind-the-scenes look on a Mediacorp-ish media conglomerate – is leading the race for Star Awards 2016 with a whopping 25 nominations.
The 32-episode drama, which starred method actresses Rui En and Jeanette Aw, scored the most number of nominations while dramas The Journey: Our Homeland and 118 have 16 and 11 nominations respectively.
And if you zero in on each category, you will see why Dream Makers 2 is bao jiak (odds on to win) that the drama has multiple nominations for each.
Best Actor: Two nominations
Best Actress: Three nominations
Best Supporting Actor: Two nominations
Favourite Female Character: Three nominations
Favourite Onscreen Couple (Drama): Three nominations
Putting on our couch potato analytical cap, the number of nominations simply means two things:
1. The other shows are crap.
2. Any show about the local TV industry must be really good.
2. The show about the local TV industry is so good because it is about the local TV industry.
Previously, the first season of Dream Makers – unsurprisingly – also led the field with 19 nominations in the 2014 Star Awards, subsequently scoring major wins including Best Drama, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
It won nine awards that year.
All that's left is to wonder how many it'll get this year.
