A photo purportedly showing a satay seller in Jakarta continuing to hawk his food has become one of the emblems of Indonesians' stoicism and defiance in the wake of a series of bomb blasts and gun fire outside Sarinah Mall that occurred on Jan. 14, 2016.
According to details posted on social media accompanying the photo, the satay booth is located 100 metres from the area where one of the blasts occurred.
Over on Twitter, Indonesian citizens have collectively responded with solidarity, declaring "We are not afraid".

They are using the hashtag #KamiTidakTakut, which can be translated as “We are not afraid”, alongside another hashtag #JakartaBerani, which means "Jakarta is brave" to send a message.
Meanwhile, in an article on Tech In Asia, Facebook has come under fire once again for not activating their safety check function for the people of Jakarta to let friends and family on the social network check in to notify others that they are safe.
This is in contrast to Facebook quickly activating the feature immediately after the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015.
