Unfortunate ST ad placement is trollish but has surprisingly biblical meaning

Heh heh heh.

Inappropriate advertisements placed alongside certain news articles have always been a source of laughs or disdain.

It used to be a matter of editors making sure that advertisements were not placed near certain types of news to avoid any regrettable/embarrassing situations.

But now, in the world of online advertising via Google Ads, editors can't control what readers see in those little digital banner boxes. The advertisements are supposedly tailored to the browsing history of the reader.

So here's one such advertising boo-boo from The Straits Times' article on an old gambling game popular in Singapore some decades ago - Chap Ji Kee:

From something that seems not really out of place, but you start to think that this might be gold:

ST canon evil ad

Photography and cameras the root of all evil? Nah.

To something that starts to get a little more unfortunate and sinister in its placement:

ST boeing evil ad

Boeing wouldn't like to be advertising like that methinks.

And finally to the Holy Grail (oh, pun very intended) of unintentional ad placements:

ST HSBC evil ad

It doesn't get any more literal and biblical than this. Sorry HSBC.
