So Singapore lost 2-1 to Syria in a World Cup qualifying match hours earlier (Nov. 17) at the National Stadium.
The action, however, was all on Twitter where The Straits Times' Sports Desk was on a warpath against Lions coach Bernd Stange and, to a certain extent, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).
But first, some context:
ST and Stange are not really football or teh tarik kakis. Last month, Stange went apeshit and accused the country's "main newspaper" of "lying" and "unprofessional" behaviour over an article which reported that first team players were given two days of rest.
He received some flak from officials and stakeholders whether he was doing the right thing in giving the players a break.
Well, if only the officials and stakeholders read the entire story.
The hostility probably stemmed from ST's coverage of the SEA Games fiasco, where the Under-23 footballers exited the tournament in the group stage despite being hosts.
It published the former Young Lions' Aide Iskandar's side of the story and highlighted some tension between Aide and Stange.
Stange, without the national paper of record's support, decided to voice his side of the story to the main tabloid newspaper of Singapore.
Ok. With all the boring bits out of the way, let's prepare the popcorn for the show proper.
It started off slow though. this happened after Syria's first goal in the 20th minute.
Lions coach Stange said that he does not want his team to be put under pressure to reach the World Cup. Syria is helping him now #SINvSYR

This one's a gem which garnered a response from said player.

Just a friendly reminder.
The poor performances, the big promises... it begs the question - Has Bernd Stange delivered for Singapore? #SINvSYR — ST Sports Desk (@STsportsdesk) November 17, 2015
This after the Lions scored a 89th minute penalty and Syria scored the winning goal in injury time.
The Lions had that one point in their hands and let it slip away. How now, Stange? #SINvSYR

FAS, you reading this?
Two defeats in three Suzuki Cup home games last year, two defeats in four home World Cup qualifiers at Kallang. That's Stange's woeful record — ST Sports Desk (@STsportsdesk) November 17, 2015
Dropping truth bombs every other minute.
Don't worry, Lions fans! Stange's target is to finish above Cambodia & Afghanistan. We remain on track. #SINvsSYR
