Kong Hee's sermon about confessing your sins from 5 years ago comes back to haunt him

The Internet never forgets.

A 41-second sermon video from five years ago, featuring City Harvest Church (CHC) founder Kong Hee preaching about confession, is bound to be making the rounds online in the wake of his sentencing to eight years in prison last week.

Uploaded onto Godtube -- a video hosting platform that is the equivalent of YouTube but solely for Christian ministry videos -- the short clip shows Kong admonishing his congregation in his typical fiery style interlaced with some phony pseudo-Southern twang.

His point? That one's confession must commensurate with one's transgression. In other words, the graver the sin, the longer and the more public the confession must be.

Here's the video:

This was what Kong preached:

How wide is your transgression? That's how great, how lengthy, how detailed your confession should be.

David committed adultery and murder, and he wrote a whole chapter of confession. And that chapter is not a private confession. It's for all to read, for all eternity. Because incorporated into the Holy Scripture; and Heaven and Earth will pass away but God's word will not pass away.

For all eternity, everybody will read of David's confession.

Your confession must be as wide as your transgression.

Here's the irony: Since he and five other church leaders were found guilty of misusing S$50 million of church funds and sentenced to jail time, Kong has only publicly come out to say he is sorry to his supporters for the emotional roller-coaster ride his arrest, investigation and trial caused, but never once has he admitted to making any mistakes.

If only he practised what he preached.

Like literally.
