Lim Swee Say clarifies comment about being glad to be S'porean and not M'sian

He said citizens of their own country are very grateful to be citizens of their countries.

So Lim Swee Say said in Mandarin during his rally on Sept. 3, 2015, that he was grateful not to be Malaysian.

He has since come out to clarify in English what he meant:

Here is a transcription of his clarification:

In fact, as I said, I feel that as citizens, citizens of all countries, I'm very sure, most if not all, citizens of their own country are very grateful to be citizens of their countries.

So what I was doing was to remind Singaporeans that the journey we went through the last 50 years, it is not easy to get to where we are today.

That's why I said, I feel very fortunate to be Singaporean together with my fellow Singaporeans to celebrate SG50, feel very grateful to Singapore, as we celebrate 50th anniversary.
