5 observations made by a virgin voter at Fengshan Primary School

Of brollies and bromance.

Editor's note: Mothership.sg called for young Singaporeans to step up and provide their voice in written form for GE2015. The aim of such an endeavour is to provide our readers a means to view GE2015 through the lens of young Singaporeans, warts, sparkles and all.

1. SMC candidates showcased their language prowess (or lack thereof)

Because they are a one-man campaigning machine (excluding volunteers), the SMC candidates tried their level best to speak in more than one language.

Punggol East incumbent Lee Li Lian gave her speech in both English and Mandarin while Fengshan candidate Dennis Tan gave his speech in English, Mandarin and Malay, although his speech in Malay was noticeably shorter.

At the other corner, Cheryl Chan’s multilingualism came in the forms of the Mandarin translation of “Residents first, always” and said: “Majulah PAP!” However, PAP old horse Charles Chong gave his speech entirely in English.

2. PAP supporters came in their full heat-endurance battle gear

Although the PAP supporters were stationed at the wrong side of the square – where there was hardly any shade – the PAP machinery was well-prepared to withstand the heat stroke-inducing heat.

Armed with white umbrellas, fans and bottles of water, almost all the PAP supporters spent the entire time out in the courtyard for two hours.

And It probably helped that their clothes and umbrellas were all white which meant more heat got reflected away. Yeah science.

As for WP supporters, they came with red flags and only a couple of blue umbrellas were spotted. They did give out free cans of 100plus to their supporters though.

3. You ain't heavy. You are my brother.

When the handful of SDA supporters (whom one could count with your complete set of toes and fingers) showed up in their green T-shirts, they were given a friendly applause by the WP supporters.

During the SDA candidates’ appearance, the WP supporters joined the SDA supporters in cheering for them. #bromance

4. Almost everyone wearing the PAP volunteers T-shirt was from Pasir Ris-Punggol

If there was one thing that differentiated one particular group of PAP supporters from their fellow brethren, it was the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC supporters; nearly everyone who was wearing the PAP volunteer polo shirt had Pasir-Ris Punggol printed on it. Talk about a show of force.

Funny that there were more Pasir-Punggol supporters than East Coast GRC supporters in Fengshan Primary, which is located in East Coast GRC.

5. Gerald Giam’s speech drew some laughter from the PAP camp.

Ok. This happened when Gerald Giam said: "If you choose us to be your MPs, we would manage your town with excellence."

But of course, WP supporters were no wallflowers.

Looks like the AHPETC saga is gonna be the focal point this election.
