Let's help a fellow young son of Singapore out, shall we?

A young Singaporean deejay named Fadille Rahman has fallen victim to Guillain-Barré syndrome — a rare disease where a person's immune system mistakenly attacks their nervous system — and is now paralysed.

Only one or two in every 100,000 people suffer from the Guillain-Barré syndrome, and while it is mostly treatable, those with severe weakness may have difficulty walking or other painful symptoms, and at worst, may require long-term breathing support.

It was only two days ago that Fadille was out of the Intensive Care Unit. As recently as two weeks ago, he still required breathing support.

The 22-year-old, who has deejayed full-time for the past eight years, is according to his friends the sole breadwinner for his household, which consists of himself and his widowed mother.

His father passed away last year, and he also lost a close friend earlier this year, as detailed in a page soliciting donations for his extended hospitalisation and rehabilitation.

While he has insurance coverage for part of his treatment, his friends estimate he will need another $30,000 to cover the above, as well as take care of housing installments and expenses for his mother during his recovery period, which they say is likely to take several months.

"The onset of the disease was quite sudden," said Jeremy Leong, who runs a DJ school called the Ministry of DJs, where Fadille works as an instructor. "He was quite overworked... One night (he) noticed a numbness in his legs and arms, and this numbness progressed and left him effectively paralysed."

Speaking to Mothership.sg about Fadille's deejaying work, Leong said full-time DJ-ing is much more stressful than most might believe.

"It's not just a 'for-fun' job. You're working late hours and your body clock is thrown out of whack between DJing and regular days," he added.

On Fadille, Leong described him as a "selfless" person, about whom many would be able to share anecdotes of how he helped them out on various occasions.

"He's one of the kindest souls you'll ever meet and will do anything for those he's close to," he said. "He's a very passionate and talented DJ too!"
