Did Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who is all for fewer personal attacks, throw shade at Workers' Party?

He's quite the Jedi at throwing shade.

Fresh from his recent passive aggression with outgoing Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Inderjit Singh, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who is really all for fewer personal attacks during the hustings, did it again.

This time, the Master Thrower of Shade cum People's Action Party (PAP) organising secretary appears to have not-so-subtly targeted the Workers' Party when speaking to reporters at a community event on July 30.

Ng said:

"(For) The residents on the ground, the first priority is that 'can this candidate take care of my town?'. 'Can you make sure that my homes (and the) environment are well taken care of?', 'That my flats are painted', 'That the lifts have enough money to be replaced (SIC)?', 'that my town council funds are adequate' because if you don't have that, then it's hard to talk about other things." Just in case you are living under a rock, WP was – and still kinda is – in a spot of bother for the poor management of Aljunied Hougang Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC). You can read all about the brouhaha here, here and here.

Anyway, back to the Master Thrower of Shade. Ng also told reporters that PAP will introduce the candidates "well before Nomination Day".

"There will always be last-minute changes because all elections are like that, but I think for the overwhelming majority of SMCs and GRCs, Singaporeans will get to know who the candidate is, well before Nomination Day."

Nomination Day is also the start of the hustings. So if we work backwards from the highly-speculated date of Sept 12 for Polling Day, we are likely to see the new men and women in white around the end of August.
