Sing when you are winning, as they say, and the Football Association of Singapore followed this to a tee.
The Lions scored an - make no mistake about this - amazeball 0-0 draw against Asian giants Japan in a World Cup qualifier on June 16 and the association gleefully, and expectedly, went on a social media blitz.
Sans the live updates, here were what FAS posted between June 16 to 18.
Post #1: FAS president Zainudin Nordin's Facebook update.
Post #2: Pictures of the team as if we won the World Cup.
Post #3 and #4: Videos of two football legends - Fandi and Sundram.
"Exclusive videos" aside, the association also sneaked this in:
The Lions will be returning tomorrow night via SQ633H, ETA 2305hrs.
What? The association was expecting a red carpet reception?
Post #5: A positive review of the match.
Post #6: A plug for not-so-popular coach Bernd Stange and a gentle reminder of the ETA of the flight.
Post #7: A gif article by ... wait a minute, The Straits Times?
Post #8: An influx of must-read articles just because.
That's right. Eight Facebook posts stretching over three days milking focusing on ONE historic draw. With such aggressive and extensive coverage, it seemed like Singapore football has hit the height of its powers.
And what of the Young Lions' performance at the SEA Games? A standard concoction of a match report, photos and highlights for all four games. And this post on Young Lions' coach Aide Iskandar's resignation - which was only highlighted in the URL.
Perhaps the association was taking cue from president Zainudin Nordin, who posted a grand total of nothing on the Young Lion's SEA Games performances.
This pretty illuminating post on his Facebook wall kinda sums it up:
However, others were pretty on the ball.
