Check into a S$2-per-hour HDB room in Admiralty courtesy of this WeChat user

Are folks living in Singapore enterprising or what?

We're not sure if this WeChat user is Singaporean, but she sure has a pretty nifty business idea going here.

Over the weekend, Mothership.sg received a tip-off about what appears to be at least one HDB flat in Woodlands being hawked as a 10 renminbi-per-hour hotel.

According to screengrabs we received, photos of at least three bedrooms are shown — assuming they're from the same flat, we're dealing with at least a four-room here.

The user posts her mobile phone number prominently on her profile advertising these rooms, with captions detailing walking directions from Admiralty MRT station and brief details on rates — 50 yuan for the first five hours or less, with available options of 70 or 80 yuan as well.

We also reckon the currency used here suggests the user's target audience.

At the moment, the Urban Redevelopment Authority does not allow private home rentals of below 6 months' duration (i.e. every Singapore-listed AirBnb post you see is in violation of either URA's or HDB's guidelines!). Under HDB, these rules get even stricter, with violations resulting in owners of these flats getting evicted in the past.

Even if we were to go along with this, and assume it was a legitimate hotel, many of us know the unspoken detail that those charging by the hour chiefly accommodate, ahem, brief liaisons between people.

Perhaps our friends in HDB may want to make a short trip down to Woodlands Street 73 sometime soon.
