Dating variety show If You Are The One has been a hit both in mainland China and also popular internationally with a wide following on streaming websites. The show comprises of 24 female participants who would 'interview' a male contestant. This is facilitated by a host and two panel 'consultants'. Females who are not interested in the contestant would 'extinguish' their 'light' and by the end of the programme, if there are still any lights left on for the male contestant, the male contestant chooses which female participant he would want to date. Successfully matched couples win prize money and holiday packages.

The show is popular because its participants would make very candid and oftentimes politically incorrect statements. This provides a window into modern China's psyche and through it you have a taste of what young Chinese people are thinking of and chasing after.

One female participant became infamous overnight after she said that she would rather cry in a BMW than laugh while riding on the back of a bicycle.
