The first batch of 74 Singaporeans and Singapore PRs returned home safely from Nepal earlier this morning (April 29, 2015).

They had been stuck in Nepal following the 7.9-magnitude earthquake on April 25 that claimed more than 4,800 lives.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen posted a video on Facebook today announcing their safe arrival. They were greeted by Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli.

Stepping off the C-130 and onto the firm Singapore ground, some were understandably shaken by the entire ordeal and were seen sobbing.

Emotions then erupted when they met their family members for the first time since the Nepal earthquake.

Ready your tissues now.

<<The Reason the SAF Serves>> It hasn’t been easy for our C-130 pilots and crew getting to and from Kathmandu. Logistics issues, long delays, diversions and challenging terrain are all part of the landscape in humanitarian assistance missions. Our SAF men and women have been conditioned to expect the unexpected and still get the mission done. But when they saw the smiles of family members waiting at Paya Lebar Air Base, it was all worthwhile. To protect Singaporeans here and to bring them home safe is why we serve. Welcome home. - Ng Eng Hen#NepalQuakeReliefThe Republic of Singapore Air Force
