These amazing photos show that commuters go through a gamut of emotions when taking the train

Who knew that taking the train can inspire so many reactions?

Taking the train has never been so emotional.

Photographer Edwin Koo, who has been taking shots of trains since 2011, took the following photos during peak hours and compiled them into a book aptly named Transit.

Partly inspired by the hot button issue of public transportation and the frustration of not being able to get on the train, he took these photos to show how crowded the trains have become.

He added on Facebook:

As commuters today, we distract ourselves endlessly with our smartphones or iPads, to anaesthetise ourselves from the unnatural and uncomfortable experience of transit. We create private spaces for ourselves in the most public of spaces.

As commuters, we observe an unspoken rule not to stare at each other’s misery.

As a photographer, I broke that last rule twice over – I recorded the stare, and continue to be amazed by what the stare reveals.

Here are some good ones that reveal how commuters feel during rush hour.

1. The it's-so-squeezy-I'm-constipated feeling
