MediaCorp has retrenched 33 employees and redeployed (i.e. giving employees work they didn't sign up for) 50 others.

This was revealed in an email to staff on April 9, 2015, by Shaun Seow, the CEO of the Singapore-based media company that also operates Channel News Asia, where this jargon-laden news broke.

Regarding the retrenched staff, Seow said that the company had been “unable to redeploy them”, an outcome that left him with “a heavy heart”.

These retrenched staff, who represent just over 1 percent of MediaCorp’s employee base, will be offered severance payments and outplacement support.

In addition to the cuts and redeployment, 12 other staff will be offered jobs as part of outsourcing agreements with MediaCorp’s partners.

This news also comes a year after it was reported last April that a lot of staff had been resigning from MediaCorp.

On April 1 this year, it was announced that Microsoft and MediaCorp joint website Xinmsn had been disbanded.
