In what was a major hint that she missed her husband dearly, newly-minted best supporting actress Joanne Peh told the mainstream media that she had to depend on herself as Qi Yuwu was often away from home.

Peh, who is six months pregnant, was speaking to The Straits Times and Today at a media conference for her new Channel 8 drama on Tuesday (April 28, 2015).

Qi, who flew back to work after the Star Awards, is currently working in China, trying his best to put food on the table for both mum and the unborn child.

Although worried for her safety, Qi is often not home to assist Peh. The Straits Times even quoted Peh saying this:

"My husband won't let me climb on anything, make strenuous movements or even wash the dishes. But since he's away from home a lot, I find that I have to do most of these things myself anyway."

And his absence has cost him dearly: the baby does not respond to him when he calls from overseas, probably as an act of protest for not being there (you never know, you know?).

Peh told Today:

“I bought speakers so that the baby can hear its father talking to it. But its reactions are quite slow!” she said. “While he’s speaking, it doesn’t move. Maybe it’s listening quietly. He speaks to it in Cantonese, while I speak to it in English and Mandarin. He tells it, ‘Be good, take care of mummy, daddy misses you.’”

To twist the knife even further, she said she "felt a lot of kicking" from the kiddo while watching the show clips, which features her prominently as she's the female lead, during the conference.

However it will be grossly inaccurate to refer Qi as unloving. He was spotted by 8 Days giving her a foot massage backstage after the Star Awards. Aww.

Meanwhile, you might have noticed Peh referring to her baby as "it".  That is because she doesn't want to reveal the gender and wants people to mind their own business a smidgeon of privacy.
