Besides knowing the various speed limits and hidden traffic cameras in Singapore, there's another vital aspect of driving all drivers in Singapore should and must know.

Car plates and the meaning behind those weird prefixes and suffixes.

So the next time you want to bully someone on the road just because the person is observing traffic rules and not driving like a hell raiser like you are, think again.

You might be tailgating the President of Singapore himself...

Here are 6 car plates every driver should know, hat tip to sgcarmart.

1. QX

Known to most as letters found in car plates of mata mata, the QX prefix is also used for emergency vehicles from the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Just visualise that Q looks a lot like a handcuff and you will remember it.

2. TP/LTA

Pay attention to these two as both prefixes equate to trouble, summons and a very good chance of demerit points. TP prefix is for the traffic police department and LTA (short for Land Transport Authority) for the bikes operated by the Enforcement Department of the authority.

3. SPF

We go a few rungs up to the pinnacle of the force with this car plate, which if we see it on the road, we will keep 10 car lengths away from because there's a good chance that the Police Commissioner Hoong Wee Teck is behind the wheel. It will be very unfortunate if you ever try to exercise your right to jam brake in front of him.

4. SJ

The cars of Supreme Court judges sport these car plates. Apparently, SJ1 is used by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.

5. SEP

An acronym for Singapore Elected President, it is the state car used by President Tony Tan. Not that you can get anywhere near to him - he probably has security officers driving in front or behind his car.

6. MP

If you are still in the army, either as a regular, NSF or NS man, please do not try anything funny with the MP plates. Nope, they are not Members of Parliament, but Military Police, who are more or less the police in green.
